Mixed Media Artist: Abstract & Fiber Art

About

My work has for several years explored the plastic possibilities of textiles and fibers, a logical continuation of a practice that began as painting and has increasingly evolved into installation art. My recent pieces combine fabrics, threads, cords, crochet, lace, found materials, and weaving techniques to create vibrant surfaces and volumes that question the memory of materials, the trace of the gesture, and the boundary between abstraction and narrative.

Far from a purely decorative approach, these works play on tensions, superimpositions, and accidents: tears, knots, and fraying become a formal vocabulary in their own right. They thus engage with the tradition of tapestry and textile art while remaining rooted in a contemporary art approach, where fiber is used as a medium in its own right to speak of fragility, time, and recomposition.

This approach to materials has led me to appreciate the use of textiles in my work and to view art with fresh eyes. Artists such asSagarika Sundaram, Olga de Amaral, Chiharu Shiota, Zhuang Hong Yi, Ruth Asawa, Sheila Hicks and Ernesto Neto, to name just a few, have entered my world of influences and helped me evolve towards a style where textiles play a central role in the creation of my works.
